Abstract The purpose of this article was to provide an exploration of the relation between tones associated with rhythmical effects and states of mind in the poems of Hsu him, a late Tang Dynasty poet. The poet applied duplicate words to strengthen image and create the atmosphere caused by harmonious sounds. In Hsu hun's poems, 261 pieces in total, there were 106 times' application of duplicate words. They showed vivace in sounds and vivid in image. The article first gave introdustion on motivation and origin, then sorted duplicate words according to topics, and finally concluded the technique and characteristic of enlivening things through figures and sounds. The examination of these inspiring features can help us appreciate Chinese poems and become more proficient in writing poetry.
