Abstract:	在英語人士的閱讀發展文獻上，字母拼讀與英語認字能力之間的密切關係已被廣為驗證。然而對英語為外語的學習者而言，字母拼讀與認字發展的關係則未被深入探討。本文以國二、國三學生為對象，針對其字母拼讀與認字能力、以及字母拼讀與英語學期成績之間的關係加以探討。本研究所採之方法為每位受試者朗讀為假字、拼音規則、以及拼音不規則的字各30個。假字成績作為字母拼讀能力的指標。研究結果顯示，字母拼讀能力與拼音規則以及拼音不規則的字皆有極高之正相關，與學生的學期成績亦有相當程度之正相關。針對假字的錯誤分析顯示，學生缺乏嫻熟的字母與其發音對應的知識。本研究發現字母拼讀能力與英語初學者之早期閱讀發展關係密切，而傳統的音標教學並未能有效建構學生字母拼讀能力。
