This Paper aims to analyze the political background of Princess Wen-Cheng's marriage ties for peace and its influences on respects of policy, military, economy andculture to Tang and Tibet. Aaccording to Tang and Tibetan documents, there was awide gap between them. The former attempted to maintain peace by way of a marriage alliance.but the latter tried to get more power over its neighbouring states through the ties. That was why Tang used to choose the stronger chief as its counterpart, and refuse the weak one.
As the history showed the marriage ties could not mantain peace very long; usually it was limited to a period of one Tsan-pu, even the married princess was still living. Although the effect of the marriage ties to policy and military was short-lived, the influence to economy and culture was very long. You may find lots of Tibetan historical records to sing praises to princess Wen-Cheng, as she introduced Chinese calendar, architecture, classics, Buddhism, medicine, clothing and custom to Tibet. Thus.we are convinced that the culturalstrengh is surpassing and boundless as the marriage ties for peace is concerned.
