Abstract:	周族原是大邑商下之蕞爾小邦，武王卻能在牧野之戰，以寡擊眾打敗紂王的大軍，取而代之建立周朝。事後周人提出「天命轉移」以說服商遺民。事實上，周人是經過其先祖數代持續的經營才得以在武王時一舉代商，有關周人之興起與發展，以《史記．周本紀》的記載較為完整，而《史記．周本紀》乃太史公依《詩》、《書》及其他文獻之記載寫成，筆者企圖透過《史記．周本紀》之記載，分析周人先祖如何在西戎之地，不斷往東拓展，一步一步進逼商人之勢力範圍，至武王之時伐紂成功建立周朝，而後在分封建國之下走向衰退之因。
