The impact of sea surface temperature (SST) anomaly related by ENSO events on the atmospheric condition in the East Asian Monsoon Region is evaluated by NCEP's global spectral model (GSM). The typical atmospheric system in the east Asia region during ENSO was examined using composite charts based on the five strongest warm and cold events.
The composites of modeling, compared with observations, shows the GSM to some degree capture the low level Northwest Pacific's high and the main characteristics of precipitation anomaly in the next spring (FMAM) over the East Asian area after the mature phase of ENSO. However, GSM didn't simulate the west-eastward extension of Northwest Pacific's high, in the next summer (JJAS).
